How do I know I've really been hypnotized?
The first few sessions of hypnotherapy are designed to incorporate elements that will prove to you that the hypnotic trance has been achieved. These hypnotic techniques elicit physical responses from the body in response to suggestions. After the first two to three sessions, you will learn to recognize when you have entered the hypnotic trance because you will be accustomed to the state of relaxation and alertness that hypnosis provides!
Do you really say "You are getting sleepy?"
The words "deep sleep" are used, but they represent a hypnotic sleep or trance, not true sleep.
Are you going to make me quack like a duck or bark like a dog?
Sounds like you have been to a stage hypnosis show! Stage hypnotists are experts at finding people in the audience that are very suggestible. Additionally, those people that raise their hands and are selected to go up on stage are volunteering/wanting to be part of the fun! They've agreed to it! Stage hypnosis is very real, but it is not the same as hypnotherapy. So, the short answer is NO, you will not be made to quack or bark- that is, unless, you want to!
Can I get stuck in hypnosis?
You cannot get "stuck" in hypnosis. If Heather was a really bad hypnotherapist and left you in the state of hypnosis without bringing you out, you would either choose to go to sleep or bring yourself out of it.
What are you going to do to me in hypnosis?
Hypnosis is not having something done to you. It is a very collaborative process! You will spend time talking, every session, before hypnosis takes place. Heather will use the information that you provide to give suggestions for improved functioning, thoughts, feelings and behavior in the area(s) that you discussed.
What can I expect afterward?
Something that distinguishes hypnotherapy from traditional therapy is that you will leave every session feeling positive and relaxed. Hypnotherapy will likely trigger what we call venting dreams, which occur in the early morning hours, and which are representative of the subconscious mind releasing unneeded baggage and experiences.
How long before hypnosis helps me?
Hypnotherapy tends to work faster than traditional therapy because it accesses the subconscious mind, which is the true behind-the-scenes navigator of our lives. How long it takes to help depends on you! You will start to notice positive changes after the first session.
I've already been to another hypnotherapist and they couldn't hypnotize me. Why should I try again?
At the Hypnosis Motivation Institute, where Heather received her training, students are taught that individuals receive information differently. In fact, quite a bit of time is spent helping students understand the importance of wording suggestions appropriately. Not all hypnotherapists are trained in the same manner, and chances are, the person who was unable to hypnotize you was not trained properly.
Heather is trained in the use of special diagnostic tools to pinpoint the best way to phrase suggestions for each client. She is also trained to observe her clients' physiological movements to ensure suggestions are taking root. Please do not worry that you cannot be hypnotized!
